Elizabeth M. Miller, LISW, is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who offers counseling services to adolescents, individuals and couples. She has special expertise in the areas of family crisis and traumatic family interaction. Prior to working in private practice, Elizabeth was the lead supervising clinician on Nationwide Children’s Hospital Crisis Team. She has counseled high-risk youth and their families on issues of suicide, self-harm, mood disorders, anxiety management, and life-management skills. Through her experiences, she has come to value the unique contribution adolescents make to the world, and holds that contribution in high regard as she moves through the counseling process. Elizabeth provides counseling to adults in the areas of life management, interpersonal communication, depression, issues of attachment and relationship stability, anxiety disorders, and recovery from emotional, physical and/or sexual abuse. She has expertise in working with repressed shame, and in women’s issues related to transitioning during divorce or death, children leaving for college, re-entry into the education or work arena, and development of the independent self. 

Working primarily from a humanistic approach, and having completed post-graduate training at the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, Elizabeth utilizes primarily Gestalt and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in the therapeutic process. She practices present centered therapy, helping individuals connect the dots of their present concerns to prior experiences and future goals; collaborating with the client through the therapy process to assist in achieving understanding of their interactions with others and with the larger world. She values the balance of one’s cognitive, behavioral, emotional, spiritual and physical self to achieve holistic health.
